The profile

U.S. Bancorp describes itself in its own annual report as a financial services holding company headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, registered as a bank holding company under the Bank Holding Company Act of 1956 and electing to be treated as a financial holding company. It provides lending and depository services, cash management, capital markets, and trust and investment management, and also engages in credit card services, merchant and ATM processing, mortgage banking, insurance, brokerage and leasing. Its banking subsidiary, U.S. Bank National Association, held all of the group's consolidated deposits of $522.2bn at 31 December 2025 and operated 2,075 branches across 26 states and a network of 4,428 ATMs at the same date; total assets were $725.9bn at 30 June 2026. The four reported segments are Wealth, Corporate, Commercial and Institutional Banking; Consumer and Business Banking; Payment Services; and Treasury and Corporate Support. In January 2026 the company agreed to acquire BTIG, an institutional trading and investment banking firm, for up to $1bn. Its digital asset work sits in a platform rather than a venture: the internally built Digital Asset Platform is the stated foundation for issuing, managing and moving tokenized assets and for connecting the bank's finance, risk, compliance and operations systems to blockchain networks. USBDC, the group's dollar-backed token, was described as an issuance capability in November 2025 and became a live payment on 9 September 2026, when the bank moved value between its own entities in North America and Europe on Stellar and exercised minting, payment redemption, freezing and clawback in the same pilot. The bank frames the use cases as corporate rather than retail, naming liquidity management, collateral mobility and cross-border treasury operations, and it has not said whether the token will be offered to clients or to other institutions.

Products and services

USBDC
The group's own dollar-backed token, issued through the Digital Asset Platform and used on 9 September 2026 for a cross-border payment between U.S. Bank entities in North America and Europe. No amount, reserve arrangement or client availability has been disclosed.
Digital Asset Platform
The bank's internally developed platform for issuing, managing and moving tokenized assets, which the September 2026 pilot was designed to validate end to end against the bank's own finance, risk, compliance and operations systems.
Freeze and clawback
The issuer controls the pilot exercised alongside minting and redemption. On Stellar they are native asset flags rather than bank code, and clawback cannot be enabled unless the revocable flag is set first.
