Wells Fargo & Company
The fourth-largest US bank by total assets, with about $1.99tn in 2025, which filed a trademark application for WFUSD on 11 March 2026 without saying whether the product would be a deposit token or a stablecoin.
The profile
Founded in 1852 by Henry Wells and William Fargo, it is the fourth-largest US bank by total assets, with about $1.99tn of assets in 2025 and more than 70 million customers across banking, mortgage, wealth and card businesses. It filed a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for WFUSD on 11 March 2026, covering cryptocurrency payment processing, digital asset trading and software for asset tokenisation, without saying whether the product would be a deposit token or a stablecoin. In July 2026 it was reported among the banks joining the shared tokenized deposit network to be operated by The Clearing House, which the owner banks intend as interoperable digital cash inside the regulated banking system and have targeted for the first half of 2027, a defence of deposit funding rather than a new revenue line.
