The profile

Stiftung Ethereum, the Swiss non-profit foundation established in 2014 that funds Ethereum protocol research and client development, runs the Ecosystem Support Program and academic grants, organises Devcon and operates the bug bounty; it states that it neither controls Ethereum nor is its only funder. Its first treasury policy, published on 4 June 2025, sets annual operating expenditure at 15% of the treasury with a 2.5-year fiat buffer, and commits to reduce that to a 5% baseline over five years, holding the remainder in ether that is solo-staked or supplied to established lending protocols. That makes the largest holder of a settlement asset also a declared participant in the lending markets built on it, and its published mandate of censorship resistance, open source, privacy and security is the stated filter for what it funds.
