tZERO was built to do the whole lifecycle of a tokenized security inside one group, which is why an exchange operator that wants ownership records kept on a chain has somewhere to go. Its own company page dates the founding to 2014, as a subsidiary of Overstock.com, Inc., now Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc., and lists the registrations that make the claim work: tZERO Digital Asset Securities, LLC, a broker-dealer custodian that controls its own wallets and private keys; tZERO Securities, LLC, a broker-dealer and the operator of the tZERO Securities alternative trading system, which has supported secondary trading in digital securities since 2019; tZERO Transfer Services, LLC, an SEC-registered transfer agent; tZERO Capital Partners, LLC, an exempt reporting adviser in Utah; and tZERO Introducing Broker, LLC, registered with the CFTC and a member of the National Futures Association. Applications for derivatives clearing organization and designated contract market registration are pending. On 31 August 2026 tZERO and Intercontinental Exchange announced a memorandum of understanding making tZERO a design partner for the digital transfer agent and broker-dealer infrastructure of ICE's planned NYSE-affiliated Digital Trading Platform, with ICE investing in tZERO's latest financing round and taking a licence to the patent portfolio, tZERO expected to be designated an approved digital transfer agent and subscriber subject to regulatory and operational requirements, and the two firms to evaluate using tZERO tokenized assets as collateral at ICE's clearing houses.
