The profile

Italy's national central bank and a Eurosystem member, entrusted by the ECB Governing Council in 2017 with developing and operating TIPS, the euro area's instant payment settlement platform, which has run since November 2018. It co-developed the T2 real-time gross settlement service and TARGET2-Securities. Its Directorate General argues that distributed ledgers are evolving rather than disrupting finance, and that central bank money should remain the settlement pivot for tokenized instruments, the reasoning behind the Eurosystem's Pontes and Appia work.
