The profile

Bitstamp was founded in 2011 and its own chief executive calls it the world's longest running cryptoasset exchange. Robinhood Markets closed its acquisition of Bitstamp Ltd on 2 June 2025, describing a business with offices in Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Slovenia, Singapore and the United States, more than 50 active licences and registrations, and retail and institutional customers across the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and Asia. The purchase gave Robinhood its first institutional crypto business, and the release named the parts that mattered to the buyer: trade execution, order book depth, API connectivity, crypto-as-a-service, institutional lending and staking. What the group does with it is visible in the arrangement announced for Britain on 10 August 2026. The customer sees the Robinhood app and its stocks and shares ISA, equities, options and futures; the crypto trades themselves are provided through Bitstamp UK Ltd, registered with the Financial Conduct Authority as a cryptoasset service provider, and cryptoassets held through that entity are covered by neither the Financial Services Compensation Scheme nor the Financial Ombudsman Service. The exchange is therefore doing two jobs at once in this group: running its own venue for institutions, and supplying the regulated permission and the execution behind a retail app in a jurisdiction where the parent brokerage is authorised for other things.

Products and services

Spot exchange
The order-book venue for buying and selling cryptoassets against fiat and against each other, which Robinhood describes as having deep books and long-standing institutional API connectivity.
Crypto-as-a-service
The supply of execution, custody and connectivity to another firm that puts its own interface in front of them, which is the shape of the arrangement behind Robinhood's UK crypto offering.
Institutional lending and staking
Lending against cryptoasset positions and the operation of staking on behalf of institutional clients, named in Robinhood's acquisition release as part of what the exchange brought with it.
